About Lesson
Components of a Hybrid Diesel System
-
Diesel Engine:
- Acts as the primary power source, providing energy for propulsion and charging the battery.
- Known for its fuel efficiency and ability to produce high torque at low speeds.
-
Electric Motor:
- Assists the diesel engine during acceleration and can power the vehicle independently in electric-only mode.
- Provides smooth and quiet operation with zero emissions during electric-only driving.
-
Battery Pack:
- Stores electrical energy for use by the electric motor.
- Can be recharged by the diesel engine, regenerative braking, or an external power source (in the case of plug-in hybrids).
-
Power Electronics:
- Manages the flow of electrical energy between the battery, electric motor, and other components.
- Includes inverters and converters that control the power distribution.
-
Control System:
- Coordinates the interaction between the diesel engine and electric motor to optimize performance and efficiency.
- Determines when to switch between or combine diesel and electric power based on driving conditions and battery charge.
